Montgomery County has placed among the 500 healthiest counties in the nation and is the highest-ranked county in the Philadelphia region, according to a new ranking published by U.S. News & World Reportwrites Kennedy Rose for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The rankings are based on data sourced from various public institutions, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Census Bureau, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The data was sorted into several individually-weighted categories determined by public health experts with population health, including access to care and health condition among others, weighted the highest.

Montgomery County made the top 200 at No. 140 with an overall population health score of 81. It dropped 30 places from 2019 when it was No. 110. The county has a life expectancy of 80.9 years, above the national median of 77.9 years, and a smoking rate of 13.4, lower than the national median of 17.3 percent.Meanwhile, people with no health insurance is at 4.7 percent, compared to the national median of 10.6 percent. Chester County and Bucks County also made the list, at No. 168 and No. 267, respectively.
